Udayana University Engages Tambakan Village Farmers to Build a Circular Coffee Economy Through a BIMA Grant from the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology

TAMBAKAN VILLAGE, July 26, 2026 - A research team from the Faculty of Agriculture and the Faculty of Animal Husbandry of Udayana University (Unud) launched a post-harvest technology mentoring and modernization program for the Alfagro Young Farmers Group in Tambakan Village, Kubutambahan District, Buleleng Regency. This program is funded through the BIMA scheme of the Ministry of Education and Culture's Community Partnership Program (PKM) to achieve economic independence based on zero waste in agriculture.

The symbolic handover of modern equipment was carried out by the Head of the Unud PKM Team, Dr. Ir. Anak Agung Istri Kesumadewi, M.Si., representing the Head of the Unud LPPM, Prof. Dr. drh. I Nyoman Suartha, M.Si., to the Head of the Alfagro Young Farmers Group, I Putu Angga Saputra, S.P., on Sunday (July 26, 2026). The assistance includes a pulper machine, an electric food dehydrator, a compost shredder, and drying racks.

"Through this technology allocation, the added value of coffee is expected to fully circulate in the village. The pulper machine can reduce operational costs, while the dehydrator encourages the downstreaming of derivative products such as kaskara tea and coffee leaf tea," said Dr. Anak Agung Istri Kesumadewi.

The series of programs began on June 30, 2026, with green bean processing training at CV Kopi Gunung Catur, led by practitioner I Ketut Jati. This step is considered strategic considering Buleleng's vast potential, with 1,370 hectares of coffee land allocated for development by 2026, 245 hectares of which are located in Tambakan Village.

The Head of the Plantation Division of the Buleleng Regency Agriculture, Food Security, and Fisheries Office, I Gede Subudi, S.P., expressed his appreciation. He stated that the innovations, from product diversification to processing coffee husk waste into compost, are highly relevant to the regional program to strengthen coffee as Buleleng's leading commodity. This synergy is expected to make Tambakan Village a role model for implementing a sustainable circular agricultural economy in Bali.

Program Key Points:

1. Upstream-Downstream Quality Improvement: Beginning with green bean processing training on June 30, 2026, at CV Kopi Gunung Catur, conducted by practitioner I Ketut Jati.
2. Efficiency and Diversification: The use of a pulper reduces third-party processing costs, while a dehydrator produces kaskara tea and coffee leaf tea.
3. Waste Utilization (Zero Waste): Coffee husks and waste are processed into organic fertilizer using a shredding machine and returned to the farmland.
